Green Oaks School is a Christian-based independent school in Arlington, Texas for students with Down syndrome and similar intellectual disabilities. We serve young people from ages five to adult. The primary focus of our school is to teach academics at the ability and interest levels of our students.
It is our goal to enrich the whole student . . . academically, socially, and spiritually.
Our curriculum includes:
- Transition Skills
- Life and Social Skills
- Computer Skills
- Field Trips
- Jobs in the Community
- Ongoing Occupational Therapy
- Daily Individualized Oral Motor and Speech Therapy
- Optional Prayer/Worship Time is offered each morning
- Our own Special Olympics delegation
Our school provides a nurturing classroom environment optimally structured to allow each child to reach his or her full potential, both academically and socially. Our low teacher to student ratio and homogeneous student population allow for the learning environment to be structured for each child’s unique academic needs. These individual needs are met by a curriculum tailored to the child’s specific learning style and abilities, and delivered by certified special education teachers and aides. Socially, our students display increases in self-esteem and appropriate expression of their unique personalities.
We are currently serving 61 students, grouped by age and ability level. Our students come to Green Oaks School from many different school districts in the North Texas area.
Green Oaks School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, scholarship and loan program, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
